Day and night on September 2, Russian forces launched waves of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Kherson, and Poltava. In Kyiv, strikes heavily damaged a six-story residential building, a kindergarten, a university, and a medical facility, injuring at least 11 people. A missile strike on Dnipro killed two civilians and injured five, while attacks in Odesa and the Kyiv region left over 10 civilians wounded, including children. In Kherson, Russian forces directly struck emergency rescue and police facilities.
While Russia explicitly targets peaceful citizens and urban infrastructure, Ukrainian forces maintain strict operational focus on eliminating the adversary’s war machine and supply logistics. In a major counter-strike, a Ukrainian drone operation successfully crippled the Kinef oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region.
The attack hit the AVT-6 and AT-1 primary processing units, which account for 48 percent of the plant’s capacity. With the remaining 52 percent already idle, the entire facility has been forced to halt operations. Throughout August, Ukraine executed a record 21 long-range strikes against Russian refineries, causing widespread fuel shortages inside Russia and severely disrupting diesel and petrol logistics for the invading army.
