The gasoline shortage in Moscow is worsening, particularly for AI-95 fuel. Several gas station networks in the capital have introduced sales limits despite Kremlin efforts to redirect gasoline to Moscow from other Russian regions. The Moscow Times reported the development.

At Gazprom Neft stations, a temporary limit of 40 liters of gasoline or diesel per vehicle has been introduced. Tatneft has set limits of 50 liters for gasoline and 60 liters for diesel.

Fuel shortages in Moscow and the Moscow region have been reported since last week. Drivers have complained about long lines and a lack of gasoline, especially AI-95, following another series of attacks on Russian oil refineries.

As of the evening of August 18, AI-95 gasoline was reportedly available at only one Naftamagistral station in Moscow. Lukoil’s hotline said AI-92, AI-95 and diesel were available at just two stations in the city, while another station had diesel only.

The Kremlin has previously launched a campaign to prioritize gasoline supplies to Moscow, redirecting fuel from Russia’s eastern regions. At the same time, shortages have already spread to dozens of Russian regions.

As of August 16, gasoline or diesel was available at only 28.1% of Russian gas stations, down from 41% a week earlier.
