At midday on September 5, Russian attack drones attacked a passenger train en route to Kherson, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration. The train was attacked by several “shahid” drones. Two locomotives were damaged. A 55-year-old railway worker was hospitalized with a shrapnel wound to the arm, a concussion, a mine blast, and a closed head injury.
This incident was largely overlooked by the general public during the visit of American envoys to Moscow. Meanwhile, the strike did not hit a headquarters or a warehouse. The target was a civilian train.
The day before, a drone struck a bus and a car in Kherson’s Central District. One passenger died instantly. On September 5, a 76-year-old woman with a head injury died in a Mykolaiv hospital. The death toll from this strike rose to two, and the wounded to 12, including eight women aged 50-76.
On September 5, Ukraine declared a ceasefire pending US contacts in Moscow and Kyiv. That day, Russia continued to strike civilian transport in the Kherson region.
Separately, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed targeted strikes against military drone control infrastructure: a radar station, an electronic warfare system, and a mesh network repeater in the Bryansk region used to coordinate “shahids.”
