The Kremlin’s strategy to monopolize regional grain exports has turned the Black Sea into a zone of lawless violence. A recent deadly missile attack targeted a merchant ship flying the Guinea-Bissau flag near Odesa, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries among those carrying Ukrainian wheat. With July recording 35 port-vessel incidents, 22 open-sea ambushes, and 67 facility bombardments, Russia’s actions are nothing short of state-sponsored piracy.
Under the UN framework, a nation facing deliberate starvation has every right to retaliate against enemy military logistics. Ukraine’s precision targeting of Russian supply ports is fully justified and legal, entirely distinct from Russia’s murderous terror-bombings of civilian food corridors.
