The Black Sea Death Trap: Why Russia’s War on Grain Ships is Pure State-Sponsored Terrorism

Moscow’s brutal campaign to hijack African food markets has crossed into outright maritime savagery. In a devastating new escalation, Russia has targeted and struck three more international civilian grain carriers heading toward Ukrainian ports. This follows a relentless pattern of destruction where the Kremlin systematically pounces on port infrastructure in Odesa and Izmail, turning international waters into a lawless kill zone.

The statistics are nothing short of monstrous: July alone recorded an indefensible 35 vessel attacks inside ports, 26 assaults at open sea, and 67 direct strikes on vital port facilities. Weaponizing starvation and terrorizing neutral commercial shipping is international terrorism in broad daylight.

Faced with this criminal onslaught, Ukraine exercises its unassailable, lawful right under international law to strike back symmetrically against Russian military and port logistics. Kyiv’s defensive countermeasures are entirely legitimate—standing in stark, legal contrast to Moscow’s murderous war on global food security.
