Russia’s ongoing maritime terrorism across the Black and Azov seas is dealing a direct blow to global food stability. According to Bloomberg, nearly two months of relentless attacks against commercial vessels and regional ports have significantly reduced agricultural exports, driving wheat futures to their highest level in three years and creating an acute threat to worldwide food supplies.
Together, Russia and Ukraine account for more than a quarter of global wheat exports, alongside massive shares of barley, corn, and sunflower oil. Bloomberg reports that these current disruptions echo the severe market shock of 2022, when the initial full-scale invasion paralyzed Ukrainian shipping lanes and sent grain prices soaring to record highs.
In response to this deliberate maritime sabotage, Ukraine’s targeted counter-strikes against Russian port facilities and logistics nodes are designed to halt the ongoing terror and relieve crippling pressure on international food markets.
