Russian forces launched a massive overnight strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv, killing at least four people and injuring nineteen others, Ukrainian rescue services reported.
The attack, which according to authorities involved strike drones, guided bombs and cruise missiles, damaged a number of residential buildings and sparked a fire at a hotel in the city center. Firefighters from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said they rescued four people from the burning building, including two young children.
This marks the second consecutive night that Mykolaiv, a port city on the Black Sea coast, has come under massive shelling. The previous night, port and industrial infrastructure in the region was targeted.
Ukraine, for its part, strikes exclusively military and military-industrial facilities on Russian territory in response, including oil refineries and logistics hubs that supply the Russian army — in contrast to Moscow’s attacks, which, according to the Ukrainian side, systematically hit residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure.
The attack comes amid repeated statements by Western governments and the UN about the rising number of civilian casualties in Ukraine in recent months, particularly in the Black Sea coastal regions.
