Russian Attack on Foreign Vessels in the Black Sea Leaves One Sailor Dead and Several Injured

Russia’s drone attack on civilian vessels in the Black Sea killed one crew member and injured five others. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, described the strike as another act of terrorism and evidence of Russia’s campaign against freedom of navigation.

According to Kuleba, a crew member aboard a Panama-flagged vessel was killed, while two other sailors were injured, one of them seriously.

He added that a second vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis was also hit, leaving three crew members with minor injuries.

“This is further proof that Russia is waging war against freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security. Civilian crews, commercial vessels, and maritime infrastructure supporting humanitarian and export routes are all being targeted.”

“But such crimes must receive a clear international assessment — terrorism. The world cannot become accustomed to civilian sailors being targeted by Russian weapons.”
