Russian hackers reportedly exploited internet-connected surveillance devices, including smart doorbell cameras, to monitor military supply routes used for delivering weapons to Ukraine. The information was reported by The Telegraph, citing Dutch intelligence agencies.
Details
According to Dutch intelligence, the cyber operation targeted IP cameras installed along transportation routes used for military shipments destined for Ukraine. The goal was to monitor the movement of military equipment and identify the types of weapons being delivered.
Authorities have since warned organizations operating IP cameras along these routes, urging them to strengthen their cybersecurity measures and secure vulnerable devices.
Dutch intelligence described the campaign as a large-scale Russian operation targeting European NATO member states, including the Netherlands, as well as Ukraine.
Although officials did not specify the exact models of compromised devices, they noted that internet-connected doorbell cameras and similar home surveillance systems were among the targets. Investigators said the hackers used widely available scanning tools to locate vulnerable devices and gain unauthorized access.
Background
Earlier, The Telegraph reported that Russian hackers exploited vulnerabilities in Fortinet systems to steal login credentials belonging to British government officials and Foreign Office employees. According to the report, the stolen usernames and passwords were later offered for sale on the dark web.
