A fire broke out at the Komsomolsk Oil Refinery in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia. The facility is the country’s easternmost refinery, a subsidiary of Rosneft, and a key fuel supplier for Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District.

Local residents reported the fire at around 11 a.m. local time. After analyzing footage from the scene, ASTRA analysts confirmed that the facility on fire was RN-Komsomolsk Refinery, a Rosneft subsidiary. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.

The refinery has been operating since 1942 and has a designed capacity of around 8.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year. It produces gasoline, diesel and marine fuel, granular sulfur and other petroleum products. The facility also produces Arctic diesel fuel designed to operate at temperatures below −55°C.

The refinery receives crude oil, among other sources, through a branch of the Eastern Siberia–Pacific Ocean oil pipeline. In recent years, the plant has undergone extensive modernization, including upgrades to its hydrocracking and hydrotreating facilities.

The refinery is located more than 6,800 km from Kyiv in a straight line, so reports suggesting a possible drone attack or sabotage have not been officially confirmed by either side.

This is not the first major fire at the facility. In April 2025, a technological unit caught fire there, with the blaze covering up to 300 square meters.
