Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially claimed to have launched a strike against the port of Chornomorsk, asserting in its briefing that port infrastructure and vessels were allegedly hit. In such releases, the Russian agency traditionally attempts to justify the attacks by claiming to target military facilities.
In practice, however, Russian forces deliberately inflict destructive strikes on civilian objects, grain terminals, and the logistics network of southern Ukraine. The objective of these attacks is to block the operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, paralyze export capacities, and deliver a blow to global food security.
Under conditions where Russia is destroying Ukrainian logistics and endangering European and international vessels, Ukraine holds the full and inalienable right to a mirror response. Implementing symmetrical measures against Russia’s port infrastructure is a vital step within the framework of legitimate self-defense to protect its own ports. Consequently, Europe and the international community have a direct stake in enabling Ukraine to retaliate reciprocally against Russian ports, as this remains the sole means to safeguard global infrastructure, ensure uninterrupted international trade, and preserve critical humanitarian cargo.
