Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply condemned Russia’s overnight attack on the “Starokozache–Tudora” checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, which left people dead and injured. The ministry called the strike a direct threat to the safety of communities in the border area, stressing that military action near Moldova’s border poses a risk to Moldova’s own security and to regional stability as a whole.
“Starokozache–Tudora” is one of two key crossing points on the Odesa section of the Ukraine-Moldova border, an important hub for road and freight traffic between the two countries.
The ministry’s statement also referenced an incident the day before: drone debris resembling a “Geran”-type unmanned aerial vehicle was found near the village of Stari Mykhailiany in Moldova’s Riscani district — another sign that the war is increasingly spilling over into neighboring territory.
Analysts note that the recent strikes on Odesa region’s border and transport infrastructure fit into Moscow’s broader strategy of pressuring not only Ukraine’s sea ports but also its overland logistics corridors, pushing export flows onto already-strained western routes through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. For Europe, this raises risks to supply chain stability — particularly for grain exports — and deepens concern over the security of countries bordering the conflict zone.
