On the night of September 21, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack against Ukraine, using 172 drones of various types. Impacts were recorded at 14 locations. One of the main areas affected was Zaporizhzhia, where two apartment buildings, a shopping center and university buildings were damaged. Six civilians were injured in the attack, while emergency workers evacuated residents from the damaged buildings.
Attacks also continued in the Kyiv region. Civilian facilities were damaged in five districts of the region, with the largest number of consequences recorded in Fastiv district. The damaged sites included private homes, production facilities, warehouses and administrative buildings.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces continued combat operations directly on the front line. Over the previous 24 hours, the General Staff recorded 238 combat engagements. Ukrainian units repelled Russian assaults in several areas, including the Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk, Lyman and Kupiansk directions. Ukrainian aviation, missile forces and artillery also struck areas where Russian troops were concentrated, command and drone-launch posts, artillery systems and other military targets.
Thus, the events of September 21 included both large-scale air attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure and ongoing fighting along the front line. While emergency services in Zaporizhzhia and the Kyiv region dealt with the consequences of the strikes and assisted those affected, Ukrainian forces continued their combat operations at the front.
