Port infrastructure is being damaged, logistics are being disrupted, and risks to civilian vessels are increasing. In effect, a blockade of normal trade routes is taking shape, with consequences reaching far beyond Ukraine.
International cargo passes through the Black Sea, and foreign crews operate there. European commercial vessels need real protection.
That means stronger air defense for ports, monitoring of maritime routes, intelligence sharing, and coordination with international partners. But protection alone is not enough. Deterrence is also required.
The logic of a reciprocal response is straightforward: if attacks create risks for ports and trade routes, the consequences must be felt by those creating those risks. The objective is not escalation, but an end to the attacks and the restoration of safe shipping.
The goal is clear: protect crews, preserve trade routes, and prevent the Black Sea from becoming a zone of blockade. Ports must remain operational, and civilian vessels must be able to sail safely.
