During the night of August 3, a major fire broke out in one of the buildings of Belgorod State Technological University named after Shukhov (BSTU) following a drone attack in the Russian city of Belgorod. The information was reported by Glavkom, citing the monitoring channels Pepel Belgorod, Exilenova+, and Astra.
According to local residents, the first explosions were heard at around 2:00 a.m. Shortly afterward, reports indicated that one of the university’s buildings had been struck.
According to OSINT sources, the targeted facility was used for assembling and testing unmanned aerial vehicles. The Pepel Belgorod channel reported that two drones hit the building, where UAV development and testing were allegedly taking place. The structure was reportedly destroyed by fire following the strike.
Two large smoke plumes were seen rising over the city after the attack. One originated from the university campus, while the second was observed in the Kreida district near Volchanskaya Street, where smoke had also been reported.
Russian authorities have not yet released official information on the extent of the damage.
Belgorod is located about 42 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The region has been repeatedly targeted because it hosts military and logistics infrastructure supporting Russian forces, including facilities linked to drone operations.
BSTU is one of the leading technical universities in the region. Ukrainian intelligence has previously identified dozens of Russian enterprises involved in manufacturing drones for the war against Ukraine, as well as educational institutions that train specialists for the sector.
Earlier, on the night of July 25, Belgorod was also targeted in a large-scale drone attack, which reportedly struck logistics warehouses, the Yuzhnaya power substation, and the area around the Luch thermal power plant.
