Russia suffered record military losses in July

In July 2026, Russian occupation forces suffered their highest personnel losses since the beginning of the year. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia lost 42,860 troops during the month.

The monthly breakdown of Russian military losses in 2026, according to the General Staff, is as follows:

  • January — 31,710;
  • February — 26,090;
  • March — 31,960;
  • April — 32,980;
  • May — 33,760;
  • June — 39,290;
  • July — 42,860.

Overall, during the first seven months of 2026, the General Staff estimates that Russia lost 238,650 military personnel.

This is the highest cumulative total for the same period since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As a result, July became the deadliest month for Russian forces in 2026 in terms of personnel losses.
