Ukraine has received the first €3.2 billion tranche of EU macro-financial assistance under a €90 billion loan program. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said the funds have already been transferred to the state budget and will be used to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and support social resilience.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU will provide Ukraine with a total of €90 billion over the next two years. She also confirmed that the first €6 billion for drone production will be disbursed in the coming days.
The €3.2 billion payment is the first of three macro-financial assistance installments scheduled for this year, totaling €8.35 billion. According to the European Commission, the funding was approved after Ukraine fulfilled a number of reform commitments aimed at strengthening public finances, improving customs administration, and enhancing public investment management.
