Authorities in Russia’s Pskov region have launched inspections of private homes and garage cooperatives after residents began storing gasoline supplies. Officials say the raids are aimed at enforcing fire safety regulations. The announcement was made by regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov.
According to the governor, inspectors discovered several cases in which residents had stored large quantities of gasoline in their garages. Administrative reports were issued in every identified case.
Those found violating fire safety rules face fines ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 rubles.
Vedernikov urged residents not to keep gasoline or other flammable liquids in garages and basements, while claiming that the region’s fuel supply situation is gradually improving.
Earlier, authorities introduced fuel sales restrictions across the Pskov region due to gasoline shortages. At some gas stations, fuel was sold only every other day depending on whether a vehicle’s license plate ended in an odd or even number, while most stations imposed limits on the amount of fuel customers could purchase.
Earlier reports indicated that strikes on Russian oil refineries had reduced diesel production by nearly 40%, while gasoline output was estimated to have fallen by about 25%.
